Soho Farmhouse: A Dreamy Cotswolds Getaway

Soho Farmhouse had long been on my radar, with its blend of rustic charm and luxurious comforts set against the Cotswolds’ rolling countryside. As a fairly new Soho House member, I’d read online and heard great things from other members, but it was only when my friends Chris and Jody shared that it was on their “bucket list” too that we decided it was finally time. After a busy year and few chances to properly unwind, we booked our October retreat through the Soho House app and counted down the days.

A Warm Welcome: Arriving at Soho Farmhouse

The day finally arrived, and I made the three hour drive from Brighton through stunning autumnal countryside. Entering the farmhouse grounds, I was greeted by the friendly team at the gatehouse. Their offer to valet park and whisk my bags to my room on arrival set the tone for the incredible service we experienced throughout our stay. There’s also complimentary EV charging on-site, which is perfect for a countryside getaway, ensuring I could go out and explore without the worry of trying to find a charging station.

The check-in process was smooth and personal, with staff ready to answer any questions. They even offered me a lift to the main courtyard on one of the signature vintage milk floats, though I chose to walk to meet my friend and soak in my surroundings. Right away, the tranquil environment and attention to detail at Soho Farmhouse felt like a breath of fresh air.

Exploring Soho Farmhouse: Bicycles, Boutiques, and The Hay Barn

First on the agenda was lunch. My friend Jason, is a regular visitor to Soho Farmhouse, and gave me the grand tour. We headed to The Hay Barn, which serves an irresistible Italian-Californian-inspired menu. I opted for the lunch combo with the ranch salad and pizzette paired with a crisp, cold beer, which offered fantastic value. 

After lunch, Jason took me on a full tour of the site, pointing out gems like the Soho Home shop, The Store X boutique, and the Cowshed Spa Store. Soho Farmhouse feels like its own little world, complete with charming nooks and beautifully curated spaces.

Next, we grabbed two of the Temple bicycles on offer – a stylish, practical way to explore. Cycling around the 100-acre estate, we passed lakes, cottages, cabins and beautiful farm animals. This mix of countryside freedom and chic luxury gives Soho Farmhouse a unique, almost dreamlike vibe.

Checking into My Piglet Room: A Cosy Country Hideaway

After a few hours exploring, I received a text letting me know my room was ready. A quick stop at reception and I was soon being chauffeured to my room, the “Piglet,” in a Porsche Cayenne. True to its name, the Piglet is a small, cosy hideaway, resembling a traditional pig ark but with all the upscale touches you’d expect from Soho House. The space was as welcoming as it was well-designed: a massive bed with luxurious linens, a fully stocked minibar, and ambient, dimmable lighting that made the whole room feel incredibly snug.

One of my favourite touches was the Marshall Bluetooth speaker – perfect for setting a relaxed mood with my favourite tunes. They also go all out with in-room amenities. From Grind coffee pods for the Nespresso machine, premium Cowshed products in the shower and gorgeous Soho Skin facial care, it felt like everything had been thought of. There were even grooming essentials, toiletries and useful extras, making it feel like a true home-away-from-home.

Winding Down: A Night at the Cinema

After freshening up, I took a long shower using the Cowshed shampoo and body wash, appreciating the rainfall showerhead and extra-large, fluffy towels. Wrapped in a soft robe, I brewed a coffee and enjoyed it on my porch as the sun began to set over the Cotswolds – pure tranquillity.

That evening, I’d booked a ticket to see Emilia Perez at the on-site cinema, Electric Barn, which felt just as luxurious as Soho House’s famed Electric Cinema on Portobello Road. The room was cosy, with plush velvet armchairs and footstools, and I settled in with popcorn and a drink. While the film wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, the experience was fantastic, adding an extra layer of indulgence to my stay.

After the cinema, I headed to the Mill Room – a lovely, country pub-style bar with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed a glass of red wine by the crackling fire, totally relaxed, before returning to my Piglet room for the night. The bed was supremely comfortable, and I had one of the best sleeps I’ve had in ages, cocooned in luxury linens on a Hypnos mattress.

Morning Routine: Coffee, Swimming, and the Cowshed Spa

The next morning, I awoke, wrapped myself in my robe, I made myself a double espresso with the in-room Nespresso machine and sat outside, soaking in the peaceful countryside. After fully waking up, I went for a quick workout at the gym, followed by a dip in the pool at the Boathouse. The outdoor pool is heated to perfection, and stepping into the warm water as cool morning air surrounded me was utterly refreshing.

Even with the main sauna and changing areas out of action due to a recent flood, Soho Farmhouse had set up adorable wooden saunas beside the lake, providing a rustic but cosy experience. A short sauna session overlooking the water felt wonderfully invigorating.

The highlight of my morning was my trip to the Cowshed Spa for a pamper session. I’d booked a manicure, pedicure, and signature massage, and it was heaven. I’d never had a pedicure before but felt instantly at ease seeing a few other men getting one too. The massage flew by far too quickly – I could have stayed for hours. By the end, I felt utterly rejuvenated, my skin softened, and my mind calmed by the soothing environment and expert therapists.

Local Adventures and Culinary Delights at Soho Farmhouse

Feeling renewed, I met up with Chris and Jody, and we decided to venture to nearby attractions. As fans of Clarkson’s Farm, we popped over to Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Shop, where we browsed quirky offerings and grabbed a few souvenirs. Then headed over to Daylesford Organic – a chic farm shop, café and restaurant – it was the perfect follow-up before we headed back.

That evening, we dined at Little Berenjak, Soho Farmhouse’s Persian-inspired restaurant, enjoying Jujeh chicken kebabs with an array of sides and fresh-baked bread. The food was divine, and the cocktails paired beautifully, creating an unforgettable meal. To end the night, we wrapped ourselves in cosy blankets and sat out in the courtyard by a roaring fire under the stars – an ideal ending to a perfect day.

Saying Goodbye: A Morning Stroll and Farewell Breakfast

On our final morning, I took an early walk around the grounds, wrapped warmly in my jacket. Mist hung low over the farm, adding a magical quality as I wandered past the goats, cows, and other resident animals. It was peaceful and restorative – the kind of slow, easy morning that feels like a rare luxury in everyday life.

After my walk, I joined Chris and Jody for one last swim and relaxation in the sauna, followed by a hearty full English breakfast at in the main barn. Reluctantly, we gathered our things, checked out, and said our goodbyes to Soho Farmhouse.

Reflecting on our stay, Soho Farmhouse was everything I’d hoped it would be – and more. From the incredible service to the thoughtfully designed spaces and luxurious amenities, it felt like a world unto itself, offering relaxation and high-end indulgence in equal measure. The Cowshed Spa, the food, the setting, and the attention to detail made this an unforgettable retreat. Whether you’re seeking a spa break, a countryside escape, or simply some time to recharge, Soho Farmhouse delivers in every way.

This Cotswolds haven is truly worth the visit, and I can’t wait to go back.
