Best Hang Out Spots in Brighton

My Favourite Spots to Hang Out in Brighton and Hove

Brighton and Hove is packed with fantastic places to grab a coffee, enjoy a drink, or spend time with friends, and I’ve had the pleasure of discovering a few that feel like home to me. Whether you’re after a cosy coffee shop or a lively evening spot, here are some of my favourites.

Trading Post Coffee

With many locations around Brighton, Trading Post Coffee is a go-to for me when I need a caffeine boost. My favourite locations are on Western Road as it’s a great slightly out of town location, Ship Street for when I want to sit outside, and Kensington Gardens after exploring the Brighton Lanes. I love the fact they have a variety of coffee beans which means you can always try something new, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting—perfect for catching up with friends or simply enjoying a moment to yourself. Each venue has its own charm, but all share a welcoming vibe and seriously good coffee.

Cocktails at 124 Guest House in Brighton

124 Guest House

The newly opened 124 Guest House on Kingsway has quickly become one of my favourite spots. The interior is gorgeous—a blend of modern and traditional that feels fresh yet homely. I love their intimate bar, especially the indoor-outdoor terrace under the glass roof. The cocktails here are divine, and I can already picture myself in summer, sitting out front with a freshly baked pizza, people-watching with a drink in hand. A must-visit if you’re looking for a relaxed yet stylish hangout.

Shelter Hall

If you’re after casual dining with a twist, Shelter Hall on the seafront is ideal. This food hall has something for everyone, with multiple kitchens serving everything from Mexican to Italian. It’s a great spot for grabbing a bite and a drink with friends, and the live entertainment adds a fun, buzzy atmosphere. The variety here means you’ll never get bored, and it’s perfect for groups who can’t agree on what to eat!

Soho House – Brighton Beach House

My ultimate favourite has to be Brighton Beach House, Soho House’s spot right opposite the Pier and Zip Wire. From the warm, personal welcome to the regular social events—cocktail masterclasses, wellbeing workshops, Drag Bingo—it feels like a community as much as a hangout. The food and service are consistently great, and the terrace with sea views is unbeatable. The decor is stunning, and let’s be honest, the Cowshed hand soap in the toilets is a fabulous little touch!

Drinks on the Terrace at Soho House in Brighton

17 Grams

Just a short distance from my office in Portslade, 17 Grams is perfect for a lunchtime coffee or quick bite. The cakes here are always tempting, the coffee is excellent, and the friendly service makes it a pleasure to visit. Plus, they use Aesop hand soap in their washroom—small details like this always win me over!

Rockwater

Rockwater on the seafront in Hove is another favourite. It’s brilliant in the summer for a relaxed drink by the beach, but I love it just as much in winter. There’s something magical about sitting by the fire in their cosy sofas, drink in hand, watching the waves crash and listening to the wind. The food is great too, making it a year-round gem.

Centre Stage

For a fun, unapologetically cheesy night out, Centre Stage in Brighton is hard to beat. With fabulous drag acts, DJs spinning classic gay pop anthems, and a lively crowd, it’s always a night to remember. If you’re in the mood for good vibes and a bit of glitter, this is the place to be.

Other Top Picks

If you’re exploring the local bar scene, there are a few others worth mentioning:

  • The Plotting Parlour – Known for its expertly crafted cocktails, this hidden gem has an intimate, speakeasy vibe.
  • The Mesmerist – A quirky bar with vintage-inspired decor, great drinks, and regular live music.
  • The Black Dove – A cosy, eclectic bar with unique cocktails and a laid-back atmosphere.
