How Soho House Transformed My Wellbeing
Becoming a member of Soho House was one of the best decisions I’ve made in recent years. When I first moved to Brighton, I moved here alone, not knowing anyone. I love the vibrancy and charm of Brighton but struggled to find a regular ‘hang out’ where I felt comfortable going alone, or getting to know people.
After a couple of years of living in Brighton I was first introduced to Brighton Beach House, through a friend and colleague who had recently joined. From the moment I walked through those big walnut doors and received a warm and welcoming reception, I fell in love. A beautifully decorated, bright and open venue, with comfy seats, big plush sofas, great views overlooking Brighton Pier and the sea, and fun and friendly members.
Shortly after my first visit, I was invited as a guest again, and on that visit I made my enquiries as to how I could get in on the fun, having heard about all the fun events, facilities and the ability to sip on a delicious flat white, gazing out across the beach and far onto the horizon while dreaming up my next marketing campaign. My friend referred me and I got a membership pretty quickly as the timing was right for their next intake round, and I can honestly say it’s been transformative, not only for my social life but for my health and wellbeing too.
SO WHAT MADE SOHO HOUSE MEMBERSHIP SO SPECIAL FOR ME?
A Great Social Scene
Brighton has no shortage of places to go, but with members paying to be at Soho House, it encourages them to keep coming back, which means you get to see familiar faces and build relationships. Before joining, I hadn’t found a spot where I could truly relax and just hang out, meet new people, or enjoy quality events.
One of the best parts of the membership has been the events. Soho House hosts a range of fantastic evenings, such as the Pride party in August, partying on the terrace all afternoon, sipping on cocktails and letting my hair down and having fun.
I’ve been lucky enough to see La Roux and En Vogue perform live and have attended some hilarious comedy nights too. These events have allowed me to meet a variety of people I might never have crossed paths with otherwise. I’ve connected with people from all walks of life, and some of these new friends have added so much to my life.
So far I’ve met some wonderful people; I love how the majority of members are creatives, giving us something in common, but also to learn and take inspiration from. My social circle is expanding with people I enjoy spending time with, and I hope over time, to build lasting relationships with even more members at houses across the county.
A Gym I Can Finally Stick With
Now, on to the gym. Over the years I have tried my fair share of gyms, and finding one I actually enjoy has felt impossible. I’ve been a member of many over the years, but none ever really “stuck.” Brighton Beach House, though, has changed that. The gym here is very different – it’s got this inviting atmosphere that makes working out feel like less of a chore and more of a pleasure.
For starters, it’s always clean, and crucially, it’s never packed. The quality of the equipment, combined with the thought-out layout, creates a comfortable workout environment. And, while it might sound odd, the changing and shower facilities have been a game-changer for me. They’re so well-kept and thoughtfully designed that freshening up after a workout is actually a treat, rather than the usual hassle.
I genuinely look forward to going, it’s become a real part of my routine and really helped me to kickstart my weight loss journey. Not to mention, I’ve met some wonderful people here too, who are supportive without ever being intrusive.
Embracing Self-Care with Cowshed
Another surprising impact of my Soho House membership has been on my self-care routine, thanks to their Cowshed products. Before, I was a bit sporadic when it came to skincare, but Soho House’s Cowshed range has genuinely upped my game. Having a great selection of complimentary products in the changing room, and their amazing hand soap and moisturiser throughout the houses got me hooked.
The products have not only improved my skin, but they’ve also given me an excuse to add a relaxing ritual to my day. I’ve now got a routine I love: a nice, indulgent bath with Cowshed’s Relax bath and shower gel, then a soothing self massage with the light and hydrating moisturiser and foot cream, complimented with the scent of the Relax candle and reed diffuser, which really gives the bathroom that spa vibe.
I’ve even started using the Cowshed face wash, toner, and daily moisturiser, and I swear my skin has never been clearer, and I’ve even received compliments from friends that my skin is looking radiant. The entire routine has become more than just skincare; it’s a way to unwind, pamper myself daily, and give myself time to decompress.
Great for My Mental Health
Looking back, it’s clear that becoming a Soho House member has also done wonders for my mental health. Before joining, I often felt a bit isolated – I’d go to work, go home, and repeat. I hadn’t quite found a place where I could genuinely unwind or just be. Brighton Beach House has filled that gap beautifully, giving me a welcoming space outside of my usual routine. The environment, events, and friendships I’ve built here have made a massive difference, helping me feel connected and part of a community.
So much more than just a membership, Soho House has been like a breath of fresh air for my wellbeing, reminding me of the importance of finding your own space to recharge, be around positive people, and feel supported. It’s a little sanctuary in the city that brings balance and has genuinely helped lift my spirits.
