The Peugeot E-5008 feels like one of those cars that could make a lot of families seriously consider going electric. Not because it is the fastest, flashiest or most futuristic SUV on sale, but because it does something far more useful. It combines proper seven-seat practicality with a fully electric powertrain and a design that feels genuinely stylish.
For years, the issue with larger electric SUVs has been simple. They have either been expensive, compromised on space, or offered five seats when families really need more flexibility. The E-5008 changes that. Peugeot describes it as a large electric SUV with seven seats as standard, and that instantly gives it a point of difference in a market still heavily focused on smaller crossovers.
From the outside, it has that modern Peugeot look with a sharp front end, slim lighting, strong surfacing and a more premium stance than the previous 5008. It is not trying to look like a rugged off-roader. Instead, it feels more like a smart family SUV with a bit of French flair, which is exactly where Peugeot is at its best.
Inside, the big talking point is the Panoramic i-Cockpit. Peugeot’s cabin design will not suit everyone, mainly because of the small steering wheel and high-set display, but it does make the E-5008 feel more interesting than many of its rivals. The cabin has a clean, tech-led layout and the sense of space is strong, especially in the first two rows. The third row is still best thought of as occasional adult space or more comfortable child seating, but the fact it is there at all is a major advantage.
Practicality is where the E-5008 really earns its keep. Peugeot quotes 348 litres of boot space with all seven seats in use, 916 litres in five-seat mode and up to 2,232 litres with the rear seats folded. That makes it properly useful for family life, school runs, holidays, tip runs, dogs, sports kit and all the usual chaos that comes with needing a bigger car.
There are three electric versions to consider. The standard 73kWh model offers up to 310 miles of WLTP range, the 97kWh Long Range version increases that to up to 414 miles, and the Dual Motor version focuses more on performance with up to 325hp and all-wheel drive. For most people, the Long Range model looks like the sweet spot if budget allows, simply because it gives this car the long-distance ability that a large family SUV really needs.
Charging is competitive rather than very competitive, with rapid charging from 20-80% taking around 30 minutes on the 73kWh versions and around 27 minutes on the Long Range model. That should make longer trips manageable, although real-world range will always depend on weather, speed, passengers and how much luggage you are carrying.
The E-5008 is not the car for someone who wants hot hatch handling in SUV form. It is a big, sensible electric family car, and that is exactly the point. It looks good, offers genuine practicality, has a strong claimed range in Long Range form and gives buyers something still quite rare: a fully electric SUV with seven seats.
If you need space but do not want to give up on style, the Peugeot E-5008 is one of the most convincing electric family SUVs on sale right now.
