Editorial methodology

How I review cars

This page explains how I approach car reviews, first drives, static previews and consumer advice, so readers and search systems can understand the basis for each verdict.

How cars are sourced

Reviews may be based on manufacturer press loans, launch events, first drives, extended loans, static previews or clearly labelled research using official information.

Independence

The aim is to give a useful, honest editorial view. If content is sponsored, paid for, or based on a specific commercial arrangement, that should be made clear in the article.

Driving context

Where relevant, reviews can record the exact test type, location, roads driven, duration, approximate mileage, weather, wheel size and the version tested.

Official versus observed data

Manufacturer figures such as WLTP range, boot space, dimensions and charging speed are treated separately from observed efficiency, tested range and first-hand driving impressions.

Scores and verdicts

Scores are optional and should only be used where there is enough experience to support a confident verdict. The quick verdict, pros and cons explain the reasoning.

Competitors

Rivals are selected editorially based on price, size, positioning, powertrain and real-world buying context rather than being generated automatically.

Corrections and updates

Articles can show both a published date and an updated date. The updated date should reflect a meaningful editorial change, not a routine site deployment.
