Geely’s expansion into the UK is gathering pace. After launching with the electric Geely EX5 in October 2025, the Chinese manufacturer followed it with the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid and has now confirmed that the compact electric Geely EX2 will become its third UK model.
The obvious question is what comes next.
One vehicle worth watching closely is the Geely Monjaro, a larger and more luxurious SUV that is already sold across several international markets. Although Geely Auto UK has not confirmed that the Monjaro is coming here, it appears to be a credible candidate to become the brand’s fourth UK model, potentially arriving towards the end of 2026 or during the early part of 2027.
That timing is an informed estimate rather than an official launch schedule. At the time of writing, there is no confirmed UK arrival date, pricing, specification or powertrain for the Monjaro.
What has Geely confirmed for the UK?
Geely Auto officially entered the UK passenger car market with the Geely EX5, a fully electric family SUV launched in October 2025.
Its second model was the Starray EM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV that went on sale in February 2026. The third will be the Geely EX2, a compact electric hatchback expected to reach UK showrooms from late August 2026.
Geely has previously stated that it intends to introduce a total of ten models over its first three years in the UK. However, it has not publicly identified the model that will follow the EX2.
The position as it stands is straightforward: the Geely Monjaro has not been confirmed for the UK.
There is currently no official announcement covering a UK launch date, right-hand-drive production, prices, trim levels, powertrains, equipment or the opening of order books.
Any suggestion that it could arrive in late 2026 or early 2027 should therefore be treated as a prediction based on Geely’s wider expansion plans, rather than a commitment from the manufacturer.
Why does the Monjaro make sense for the UK?
While nothing has been announced, the Monjaro would fill an obvious position within the developing Geely range.
The EX2 will cover the affordable compact electric car market, while the EX5 and Starray EM-i compete in the highly popular family SUV sector. The Monjaro would give Geely a larger, more upmarket flagship, potentially attracting customers who want more space, stronger performance and a noticeably more luxurious interior.
It is also an established product rather than an unknown concept. Geely already sells the Monjaro in markets including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
Geely reported that international exports of the Monjaro increased by 150 per cent during 2024, suggesting that it has become an important part of the company’s global range.
Bringing an established global model to Britain could help Geely expand relatively quickly, although developing and approving a right-hand-drive version would still require significant investment.
What is the Geely Monjaro?
The Monjaro is Geely’s flagship five-seat SUV in several overseas markets. In China, the same underlying model is known as the Geely Xingyue L, while the Monjaro name is used for many export versions.
The international model measures approximately 4,770mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,689mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,845mm and seating for five people.
Those measurements make it considerably larger than a compact crossover. Its long wheelbase is designed to provide generous passenger space, particularly for people sitting in the rear.
These figures relate to an existing international version. A future UK model could differ depending on specification, model year and powertrain.
A more premium type of Geely
The Monjaro is positioned as a more luxurious vehicle than the models currently sold by Geely in Britain.
Depending on the market and trim level, equipment can include three 12.3-inch displays stretching across the dashboard, a head-up display, ventilated and massaging front seats, electrically reclining rear seats and a premium 12-speaker Infinity audio system.
More recent versions are also available with adaptive continuously controlled dampers, which adjust the suspension in response to the road surface and selected driving mode.
Wireless Apple CarPlay, three-zone climate control and separate voice controls for different areas of the cabin are offered in some international specifications.
Driver assistance technology can include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, autonomous emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring.
Some models also receive Geely’s 540-degree camera system, which combines external camera views to provide a representation of the area surrounding and beneath the vehicle.
It is important to stress that this equipment is taken from models sold elsewhere. UK trim levels would almost certainly be tailored to our market.
What engine does the Geely Monjaro use?
The most widely available international Monjaro is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
In current Middle Eastern specification, the engine produces approximately 238hp and 350Nm of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed Aisin automatic gearbox and an intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
An earlier international specification quoted a 0-100km/h time of around 7.7 seconds, which would make the Monjaro reasonably quick for a large family SUV.
Geely’s newer UAE model lists fuel consumption of 8.8 litres per 100km, although figures vary between markets, testing systems and model years.
In summary, the current international petrol version uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing around 238hp and 350Nm of torque. It has an eight-speed automatic gearbox, four-wheel drive and can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in approximately 7.7 seconds.
None of these specifications have been confirmed for the UK.
Could the UK receive a hybrid Monjaro?
A hybrid powertrain may be particularly important to the Monjaro’s chances of reaching Britain.
Geely has so far concentrated its UK passenger car range on electrified vehicles. The EX5 and EX2 are fully electric, while the Starray EM-i is a plug-in hybrid.
Launching a relatively large petrol-only SUV would represent a change of direction, particularly as manufacturers work towards increasingly demanding UK new-car emissions requirements.
Geely introduced a new i-HEV intelligent hybrid system in April 2026 and said the technology would be rolled out across several models, including the Monjaro, Starray, Preface and Emgrand.
The system is designed to combine a petrol engine with electric assistance and uses intelligent energy management to improve efficiency.
That does not mean an i-HEV Monjaro has been confirmed for Britain. However, an efficient full-hybrid version could potentially make more sense for this market than the existing 2.0-litre petrol model.
A plug-in hybrid version might also fit Geely’s UK strategy, but there is currently no indication that a Monjaro PHEV has been selected for this country.
Would the Monjaro sit above the Starray EM-i?
The Monjaro would almost certainly sit above the Starray EM-i if it joined the UK range.
It has a larger body, a longer wheelbase and a more overtly luxurious interior. Its international specifications also include features normally associated with more expensive SUVs, including adaptive suspension, massage seats, passenger entertainment displays and advanced audio systems.
Its exact position would depend heavily on pricing.
The Starray EM-i currently starts from £29,990, while the Geely EX5 occupies a similar part of the market. A Monjaro would logically cost more, but international pricing cannot be converted directly into a realistic UK figure.
Equipment, taxes, warranties, transport costs and powertrains can all differ significantly between countries. Until Geely announces a UK model, any suggested price would be little more than guesswork.
When could the Geely Monjaro arrive in the UK?
Late 2026 or early 2027 appears to be a plausible window, but there is currently no confirmed timetable.
Geely’s first three UK models have been introduced in relatively quick succession. The EX5 arrived in October 2025, the Starray EM-i followed in February 2026 and the EX2 is expected in showrooms from late August 2026.
If Geely maintains a similar pace, another model announcement before the end of 2026 would not be surprising.
The Monjaro is one possible candidate, but it is not the only vehicle available within Geely’s extensive global portfolio.
The manufacturer could instead choose another electric car, a smaller crossover, a saloon or a completely new model designed specifically for international markets.
Is the Geely Monjaro coming to the UK?
For now, the most accurate answer is possibly, but it has not been confirmed.
The Monjaro makes sense as a potential fourth model because it would add a larger, more luxurious SUV to Geely’s UK range.
It is already an established international product, it has been successful in export markets and new hybrid technology is being developed for it.
However, there is currently no official evidence confirming that a right-hand-drive version has been approved for Britain.
I expect the picture to become clearer once the Geely EX2 has arrived in UK dealerships and the company begins discussing the next stage of its expansion.
Until then, the Monjaro should be considered one of the strongest possibilities rather than a confirmed future launch.
