Alfa Romeo has offered the first tantalising glimpse of an all-new C-segment SUV, although we will have to wait until late 2027 to see the finished car in full.

The teaser image was revealed by Emanuele Cappellano, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis Enlarged Europe, during a meeting of Italy’s National Automotive Industry Roundtable. It provides a close-up look at part of the SUV’s rear design, but Alfa Romeo is keeping its name and wider styling firmly under wraps for now.

What has been confirmed is that the new model will use Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform and will be offered with multi-energy powertrains. That wording suggests Alfa Romeo intends to give buyers a choice of electrified options rather than restricting the model to one type of propulsion, although precise engine, hybrid and electric specifications have not yet been announced.

The new SUV will be designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo in Turin and manufactured at Stellantis’ Melfi plant in Italy. That matters for a brand whose appeal remains closely linked to Italian design, engineering and character.

Alfa Romeo says the SUV will compete “in the heart of the market”, indicating that this will be an important volume model rather than a low-production halo car. Sitting in the fiercely competitive C-SUV category will place it among some of Europe’s most popular family cars.

It is too early to say whether the vehicle will directly replace the current Tonale, sit alongside it or introduce an entirely new nameplate. Alfa Romeo has only confirmed that its official unveiling will take place during the fourth quarter of 2027.

There is very little to go on at this stage, but that is exactly what a good teaser is supposed to do. Alfa Romeo has given us just enough to start asking questions, and I will be watching closely as more information emerges.
