Honda's Super-N is a reminder that an electric car does not have to become a large SUV. In its April 2026 UK announcement, Honda said the compact EV would go on sale from July with a starting price below £20,000. The company has also shown the production car at Goodwood.

The Super-N's distinctive feature is BOOST Mode, which brings a simulated seven-speed transmission and an artificial engine note through Active Sound Control. Honda quotes outputs from 47kW to 70kW. Those features are intended to add involvement, rather than change the basic convenience of an electric drivetrain.

What it means for buyers

One number needs careful reading: Honda's 199-mile claim in that release is a city-range figure. It should not be compared directly with the combined WLTP figures used for many rivals, or treated as the distance available during a winter motorway run. Anyone choosing on range should request the relevant combined figure for the actual UK car.

The interesting test will be whether its compact proportions and playful controls make everyday journeys more enjoyable without making longer trips awkward. Buyers should check current pricing, seating, charging equipment and dealer availability, rather than relying on the original launch target. This is news coverage of Honda's announcement, not a claim of first-hand driving experience.
